Alfredo González-Ruibal

Alfredo González-Ruibal is a senior researcher with the Institute of Heritage Sciences of the Spanish National Research Council. He has conducted archaeological and ethnoarchaeological work in different regions of the Horn of Africa, including Ethiopia, Djibouti and Somaliland, where he has explored stateless societies, resistance, borderlands and long-distance trade. In 2019 he won a grant from the British Museum and Arcadia’s Endangered Material Knowledge Programme to study the material assemblages of minority groups in Western Ethiopia. Among other books, he is the author of An archaeology of resistance. Materiality and time in an African borderland (Rowman & Littlefield, 2014) and An archaeology of the contemporary era (Routledge, 2019).
