These are leaf damage data and total phenolic data for 10 trees of each of 8 species of oaks (Quercus imbricaria (shingle), Q. alba (white), Q. velutina (black), Q. muehlenbergii (chinkapin), Q. rubra (red), Q. stellata (post), Q. macroloba (bur), and Q. marilandica (blackjack)) in east central Missouri (Cuivre River State Park near Troy). Damage is listed as either skeletonization damage (by leaf tying caterpillars) or edge damage (by free feeding species of insect herbivores). Damage was measured at the end of the season on leaves in artificial leaf ties or control leaves. Phenolics were measured on non-damaged leaves in July or September of 2008 using the Folin-Denis assay.
