Proposed evolution of influenza A(H7N9) viruses
An attempt to graphically represent the many stages of viral gene mixing and animal contacts that have resulted in a triple reassorted influenza A virus, a strain of the H7N9 subtye. This strain has been infecting humans, mostly in China's southeeast, since 2013 and is continually mutating, as viruses do.
