Short talk at the Preservation and Archiving special Interest Group (PASIG) meeting hosted at the New York Museum of Modern Art, Oct 2016.  This talk looks at some of the practical issues with research data preservation (data volumes, budgets, staff, data types, data locations) and then goes on to present some solutions based on combining an institutional repository (eprints) with a data archiving service (Arkivum) and a digital preservation platform (Archivematica).  The objective is to make it easier for researchers to get their data into a safe storage location, add descriptive metadata, and then work with RDM staff on helping achieve long-term usability.
