In this study, we compared the competitive ability of C. melitensis individuals coming from the native and the invaded range, when competing against a native relative from Chile; Helenium aromaticum (Asteraceae). We performed germination bioassays and common garden competition experiments to compare: 1) their germination capacity, 2) the potential allelopathic effect of their leaf lixiviates on seed germination of H. aromaticum, 3) their ability of reducing H. aromaticum growth using the relative interaction index (RII).
