The repository contains data used for the submitted study entitled:
Clays are not created equal: how clay mineral type affects soil parameterization

FIGURE 1
The file 'rainmap.txt' show annual rainfall amount in mm/year (value 0 for oceans); Ysize 480, Xsize 1440 (1/4 degree resolution)
The file 'kaolinitemap.txt' show kaolinite content (value -10000 for oceans); Ysize 480, Xsize 1440 (1/4 degree resolution); truncated at 50%

FIGURE 2
The file Figure2_Hydraulic_data.xlsx contains the van Genuchten parameter values of the samples and the saturated hydraulic conductivity values collected from Africa.

FIGURE 3A
The file Figure3A_SurfaceArea.xlsx collets data of clay fraction and specific surface area of active clays (smectite; described by index 'Mont' for Montmorillonite), intermediate active clays (described by index 'Ill' for Illite) and non-active clays (index 'Kaolin^' for Kaolinite)

Figure 3B
The file Figure3B_FrictionAngle.xlsx collects the residual friction angle and liquid limit values for different clay types and natural soils.

FIGURE 4
The file Figure4_Brazil.xlsx shows the histogram of the saturated hydraulic conductivity data calculated with Rosetta 3 pedotransfer function, the covariate-based geotransfer function and the original data from the HYBRAS database.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION
The file 'Unimodal_Bimodal.xslx' contains the parameter fitted using uni- and bimodal models, respectively.

The file 'ResidualMap.txt' show residual friction angle (value -9999 for oceans); Ysize 480, Xsize 1440 (1/4 degree resolution)
The file 'PeakMap.txt' shows the peak friction angle (value -9999 for oceans); Ysize 480, Xsize 1440 (1/4 degree resolution)

The files BulkDensity.xlsx and OrganicContent.xlsx contain the frequency distribution of bulk density values and organic content values for soil samples from temperate and tropical regions
