ClimPlant: realized climatic niches of vascular plants in European forest understoreys (v 2.0)
The updated ClimPlant database (v 2.0) contains information on the distribution of monthly, growing-season, and annual mean, minimum and maximum temperature, total precipitation and microclimate (i.e., the temperature at the forest understorey level) within the distribution range of 1168 European plants, mostly associated with temperate forests.
Microclimate temperatures were calculated by subtracting the monthly temperature offset values (ForestTemp layers; Haesen et al., 2022, 2021) from the corresponding monthly macroclimate temperature data in Worldclim v.2. The microclimate temperature can be used for juveniles of shrubs and trees and other plant species that grow at the forest understorey.
Data in 70 csv-files with 1000 values for monthly, growing season and annual observations of mean, minimum, maximum temperature, precipitation and microclimate temperature in the distribution range for every species. One summary csv-file with summary statistics (mean, median, 5th and 95th percentile) for every species, of each climatic variable, together with seven key geographical descriptors: area of the distribution range, latitude and longitude of the centroid, and northern, eastern, western and southern range limit within the study area.
