This is the first metagenomic and metatranscriptomic study of acid rock drainage (ARD) in the Vermont copper belt region. Extreme environments, such as ARD, are being explored for new natural products. This study represents the first seasonal assessment of ARD to determine its potential to produce novel bioactive secondary metabolites.
