Instruction, table, picture sheet, and original pictures: Morphological abnormalities in the field samples of the pale grass blue butterfly for three years after the Fukushima nuclear accident

Posted on 2023-03-11 - 09:21 authored by Ko Sakauchi

After the Fukushima nuclear accident, we performed the six field sampling surveys of the pale grass blue butterfly Zizeeria maha in May and September (August-October in 2013), 2011-2013. Seven major localities in Fukushima and Ibaraki prefectures were set as fixed points. The results have reported relatively high morphological abnormality rates and transgenerational effects on their offspring. We reinspected 135 specimens with morphological abnormalities from the six surveys and systematically compiled them in instruction, table, picture sheet, and original pictures. Normal individuals sampled at the same surveys of abnormal individuals are included for comparison. Although these are separately reposited in Figshare, here is all collected dataset. The details of aberrant traits are described in table, and the specific aberrant points are visually indicated in picture sheet. Pictures on the picture sheet are reduced size for a quick look, so original pictures with bigger size can be convenient for individual use. Because the pale grass blue butterfly functions as an environmental indicator, this dataset will be useful now and in the future to evaluate biological effects of various types of terrestrial environmental pollutions.
