Dataset for predicting single-spot proton ranges in proton therapy of prostate cancer

Posted on 2021-09-20 - 14:33
This collection is part of a project carried out by the DKFZ and the HIT facility for real-time range monitoring in proton therapy of prostate cancer. The data was collected in two experimental campaigns aiming at the detection of the interaction of the proton beams with the an endorectal balloon (ERB). For this purpose, a range probe consisting of an ERB filled with a mixture of water and silicon dioxide was inserted in a prostate phantom and several single-spot proton beams were delivered with increasing energies. At the interface between the prostate and the ERB is the rectal wall which is very radio-sensitive. It is our goal to monitor the irradiation for future control or prevention. It is the aim of this collection to provide other researchers with the tools to reproduce our results and evaluate alternatives regarding different geometries, beam species, and phantoms.
