Kia ora, my name is Sidney and I'm a PhD student in linguistics at the University of Canterbury Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha with funding from the Geospatial Resarch Institute Toi Hangarau. As part of my PhD research, I'll be modelling language variation and change in local populations using geo-referenced social media language data. I was attracted to this topic by the transdisciplinary nature of this project and I look forward to explore the possibilities of geospatial linguistics under the supervision of Dr. Jonathan Dunn and Dr. Ben Adams.
