I am a Sri Lankan linguist with a serious passion for Sanskrit and Indology. Trained at Peradeniya (SL), Liverpool (UK), and Oxford (UK), I write in Sinhala, English, and Sanskrit on a wide array of topics ranging from Sanskrit grammar and Indo-European philology to Indian philosophy and aesthetics. While at Oxford, I won the 2012 Saraswati Sanskrit Prize for my Sanskrit poetry titled "Surabhāratīvaraṇārthamahārṇavabinduḥ" accompanied by a self-commentary on the theme "why we must learn Sanskrit today". [The Saraswati Sanskrit Prize is a biannual award instituted in 2008 by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in India together with the Department of Cultural and Religious History of South Asia, the University of Heidelberg in Germany]. Since August 2022, I am Professor of Sanskrit at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. Before occupying the Sanskrit Chair, I was a full professor in Sanskrit there since September 2019.
