My training was as an educational linguist (MA), and then later as a psycholinguist (PhD). My early research interests were in letter perception, vocabulary acquisition, bilingualism, and reading across orthographies and writing systems (using eye-tracking). After a career hiatus, I started teaching statistics in psychology, and learned (to my surprise) that I really, really loved it, along with the teaching of writing IMRaD papers, and formative assessment. More recently, I have become involved in equity, diversity, and inclusion in the curriculum and in open-source software development. Most recently, I have also become involved as a data analyst in project that looks at how AI can be incorporated into the writing process of university students, instead of resisted, which seems unrealistic at this point.
