Damien Jacques

Bio-engineer, Damien is currently a research assistant at ULB (Belgium) while completing his PhD entitled ”Harnessing the Data Revolution for Food Security and Poverty Mapping: Synergies between Mobile Phone Data, Earth Observation and Official Statistics in Senegal” at UCL (Belgium). He has strong skills in remote sensing, geographic information system (GIS) and data science. His areas of research are food security, poverty, agricultural economics and academic publishing. He won the Agriculture award for the Data For Development (D4D) challenge organized by Orange, MIT and UN. He was an active member of Focus Research and Eurodoc as well as one of the founders of PhD Hub, the Belgian network for early career researchers. In addition, he is an active promoter of Open Science and Open Access. Finally, he is one of the founders of STEMGARDEN (www.stemgarden.co), an online platform that promotes urban garden solutions.
