Andres Salcedo

Postdoctoral Scholar (Biological sciences)

Andres Salcedo is a postdoctoral research scholar at Dr. Lina Quesada’s Lab. His career has been influenced by his passion for understanding the genetics behind the interaction between plants and both biotic and abiotic stresses contributing to the well-being of society. Andres joined Dr. Lina Quesada’s lab with great interest in emerging plant diseases and plant-pathogen interactions. Currently, he is investigating the genetics of the interaction between cucurbit crops and new pathotypes of the Oomycete Pseudoperonospora cubensis, the causal agent of Cucurbit Downy Mildew (CDM). CDM is considered a high-risk plant disease, with extraordinary potential to devastate the cucurbit industry. Andres earned a BSc in biology with a minor in genetics at the Universidad del Valle (Colombia), and worked as researcher at the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), focusing on the interaction between the soil nitrifying-bacteria and tropical pastures as well as the cloning and char
