This paper aims to evaluate the design and the results of the achievement test administered to an advanced class in the CLP. Prior to the test design, we consul relevant literature to create and modify the models of grammatical knowledge and writing ability. The test design is based on Purpura’s (2016) meaning-oriented model of L2 proficiency. After test results are collected via Qualtrics, SPSS is used to explore not only the nature of grammatical knowledge, writing ability, and the relationship between grammatical knowledge and writing ability but also the relationship between the test takers’ length of stay in the United States and their performance on each section of the test. Further interpretations of statistical results are made to reflect on test results. This paper concludes with the summary of the test results and discusses whether the tasks used to operationalize the contrasts successfully measure test takers’ abilities.
