This thesis presents a reflection on the work of Bando de Brincantes, covering the dialectical space between theory and practice that had been the basis for the history of this art collective. This study presents a brief history of theater for children in Brazil and an analysis of the performances of: Canto de Cravo e Rosa (Song of Carnation and Rose), focusing on the dialectics of diversity; Jogos de inventar, cantar e dançar (Inventing, singing and dancing games) and their imaginary, affective and sensory dialogues; and Quaquarela, which focuses on the construction of scenes from a ludic point of view. This study also presents work methodologies, as well as art and education propositions, and discusses controversial issues such as appropriateness of language to children’s thinking and prejudice against children’s theater as artistic expression. Finally, this thesis advocates the importance of theatrical language for human development, outlining the choices made by Bando de Brincantes in order to invite the reader to form his or her own ideas on the topic.
