Indigenous Fluency in the Victorian Planning Profession

This thesis investigates the extent to which, and how, Indigenous awareness guidance is provided in PIA-accredited planning courses. The thesis explores the planning education provision of Indigenous knowledge to Indigenous knowledge fluency of planners in Victoria and others existing research. A survey of 2 sectors of current planning practitioners indicated the varied approaches to providing Indigenous guidance. The provision of Indigenous awareness guidance is largely an optional criteria in planning subjects. The research concludes that to ensure methodology of planning professionals attains fluency in Indigenous awareness planning courses require learning outcomes to be informed by Indigenous rights instruments and embedded in criteria. To advocate for future planning graduands; To advocate for Victorian planning community; To advocate for Indigenous Australian First Nations Peoples.
