The short-term effects of exercise on appetite and ad libitum energy intake have received considerable interest as a potential strategy to reduce the prevalence of obesity over the past two decades. The experiments in this thesis have further investigated this topic by examining the appetite and the ad libitum energy intake responses in anticipation of an acute bout of aerobic exercise session. To achieve this, healthy, regularly active males and females (M= 55; F= 34; mean ± SD: age 24± 5 years; BMI 23.4± 3.2kg/m2) were recruited into four studies. The aim of the experiments in this thesis was to focus on the behavioural aspects of appetite and energy intake, and therefore, gut hormone responses were not investigated.
