Many researchers have drawn a link between languages/systems of meanings and identities. This dissertation investigated codes and languages used in Ndemdutakesh Facebook page’s stories and their role in the establishment of a Cameroonian online identity. To do so, a textual analysis approach was adopted. Some stories and comments/interactions made on that page were analysed linguistically and discursively. Camfranglais appears to be the main language used in Ndemdutakesh’s stories. This language is characterised by linguistic borrowings, semantic extensions, coinages and simplified grammar rules. Irony, metaphors and similes – which constitute the main rhetorical tools used – are highly grounded in Cameroonians’ cultural representations and systems of meanings. These codes and linguistic resources that are used as means of interaction in real-life situations are penetrating cyberspace via Facebook pages like Ndemdutakesh.
