In the introduction I discuss the various aspects of the human vaginal microbiome and how distinct it is from other human bodily niches and other primate vaginal microbiota. I discuss how certain community state types seem to confer some protection against HIV infection and adverse pregnancy outcomes (preterm birth, pprom, chorioamnionitis etc).

In the second part (starting at slide 11) I present our own research on glycogen metabolism of Lactobacillus crispatus and the involvement of a type 1 pullulanase.

Feel free to use the slides for your own projects en education. I do appreciate a citation or mention. Please contact me if you're working (or planning to work) on anything related and are interested in collaborating or exchanging information.
