Introduction to vaginal microbiome - lecture
In the introduction I discuss the various aspects of the human vaginal microbiome and how distinct it is from other human bodily niches and other primate vaginal microbiota. I discuss how certain community state types seem to confer some protection against HIV infection and adverse pregnancy outcomes (preterm birth,pprom, chorioamnionitis etc).
In the second part (starting at slide 11) I present our own research on glycogen metabolism of Lactobacillus crispatus and the involvement of a type 1 pullulanase.
