Enhancing usability of the Parallel Ice Sheet Model (PISM) to accelerate innovative sea-level research

Motivation: Ice sheet models can be useful tools to estimate future mass loss from ice sheets, however, ice sheet models often require advanced knowledge of, and access to, high-performance computing, creating barriers to innovative research.

Approach: Enhance the usability of the Parallel Ice Sheet Model (PISM) by creating easy-to- install packaged and container versions of PISM, develop a cloud-based PISM application that allows sea-level research with a few mouse clicks.

Deliverables: PISM packages and containers, AWS PISM-Cloud application for the upcoming Ice Sheet Model Intercomparison for CMIP7 (ISMIP7), a contribution to ISMIP7 comprising a large ensemble of simulations by the proposer team.
