The slide deck is from the talk I gave at the symposium "At the frontiers of palaeoecology" in honour of H. John B. Birks, held in Bergen 19th-20th March 2015.
It covers themes related to my research but as John has essentially driven some of the major development and use of quantitative methods in palaeoecology, it has a more statistical focus. I wanted to convey the point that we can model sediment records using modern approaches, including modern time series methods, but we as palaeoecologists will need to work a little harder to employ them.
