Discharge from Hospital with Aphasia: A Scoping Review Protocol
Discharge from hospital can be a challenging time for people with aphasia, their family carers and the health and social care professionals supporting them. There is limited advice in the clinical guidelines to guide practice. Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs) have developed their own tools to support their practice in this area. A scoping review is proposed to identify what is known about the experience of discharge from hospital from the perspectives of people with aphasia, their family carers and health and social care professionals.
The databases PUBMED, EMBASE, EMCARE, CINAHL, AMED and BNI will be searched. Grey literature will be searched with support from an academic librarian. The features of the identified literature will be mapped. Narrative analysis will be completed to identify the barriers and facilitators of a successful discharge from hospital for people with aphasia. This analysis will be used to make recommendations for future research.
