Integrating Speaker-Hearer Relations Into a Rational Speech Act-based Model of Politeness

The poster was presented and published at the Computational Cognition workshop 2021 in Osnabrück, Germany. The poster presents an integration of speaker-hearer relation influences on politeness into the polite Rational Speech Act model by Yoon et al. (2016). Two model versions were implemented with German data capturing the influences of speaker-hearer relations in form of power and distance (Brown & Levinson, 1987). One model version tried to implement the speaker-hearer influences on a level similar to conceptualization and the other on the level of formulation. The poster presents an overview of the work and of the results.
