The items relate to the service of Robert Allan Yorston as a pilot in WWII. He was a student when war broke out and became a pilot in Coastal Command. He didn't take part in the Battle of Britain.

He took his pilot training in South Africa before spending time in Cornwall and Iceland. He escorted convoys and undertook submarine patrols. His 269 Squadron got a submarine to surrender. He was awarded the Arctic Star medal.

In 1995, he attended a reunion at Calderas Airfield in Iceland, although Icelanders had mixed feelings about the pilots during the war, as they were neutral.

After the war, he returned to his studies and became an ENT surgeon. He retired in 1985 and died in 2016 at the age of 96.

He left behind a wealth of material related to his war service, including log books, photo albums, medals, and heliographs.
