My mother's little diary catalogues her journey from a 19 year old living in rural Lincolnshire, bored with her humdrum office job, to volunteering and joining the ATS. Mum was excited to be trained as a plotter at Fairwood Common in Wales and relieved to be billeted with a kind and generous family in Swansea.
There's a lot of detail on the day-to-day life in camp, friendships, homesickness, and how the girls coped with a life away from family, friends and sweethearts.
