posted on 2024-06-05, 19:26 authored by Their Finest Hour Project Team

Mary Cogdell worked for the US Air Force at Dawes Hill. She was a cook and formerly worked at Wycombe Abbey School. She was one of Elizabeth's maternal grandmother's two sisters. The two sisters' lives were already impacted by war before the 1939 conflict began. They both lost boyfriends in the First World War and never married. They lived together but latterly fell out. Mary lived downstairs and her sister Bertha on the upper storey.
