The colored Landolt ring is presented with its gap in one of four directions: up, down, right, or left. If the subject answers correctly, the stimulus size is reduced by one step. If the answer is incorrect or not supplied, the stimulus size is increased by one step. The CVA value is calculated from the minimum Landolt ring size for which the subjects answer correctly more than two times out of a maximum of five times.
