In my role as an artist, I have on many occasions tested the boundaries of familial, collegial, and random subjects in the public context who have interacted with my creative works. This exploration of the boundaries of where technology intersects with life is evident in the artworks and installations where reasons for the presence or launch of an artwork adopt an ambiguous realm. In this recording of William Wilson Hayes, Eleanor Hayes, and Alexander Hayes on the 14th September 2006 at my home at 24 Amy Street Erskineville in Sydney, Australia the boundaries of permission and consent are explored, then within the ensuing conversation, a revealing historical recount emerges of the role of recorded sound within Family connections. long before podcasting was ever invented. In fact in this podcast episode, the substrate that is spoken of includes magnetic analog tapes and ‘spool-to-spool’ tape recorders back as early as 1964, with recordings sent from one part of the world to another - the ‘telling’ gram.
