In 2001 the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education, Science and Culture launched the “Austrian Genome Research Programme GEN-AU”. The genome research programme was planned for a period of nine years. The evaluation team was asked, in essence, to answer to overarching questions: “Should the programme be continued?” and “Is there room for improvement?” With this evaluation report the continuation of the programme is clearly advocated. Furthermore, a lot of small starting points for improvements are seen.
