This research paper aims to do a systematic literature review and bibliometric and content

analysis to analyze the trends and identify the future direction of available literature on Employee

Performance Appraisal. Scopus database of the last 57 years (1964 till 2021) applied for research

on this subject. The systematic study of historical research papers helped to learn about evolving

patterns and their limitations over performance appraisal models. Industrial Revolution 4.0 gave

the paradigm shift in handling employees' aspirations and direction to do analytical research for

answers. Researchers have published multiple articles (Appelbaum, 2011) explaining the drawbacks

of numerous performance appraisal models. Therefore, we endeavor to uncover emerging

trends of HRM practices in research journals and collaboration patterns of research and research

constituents to explore the intellectual structure of performance appraisal in the HR domain, setting

the future direction to formulate new HR policies. The data research identifies diversifications in

five subsets of research areas: Ethical Leadership, Knowledge Sharing, and Training; Performance

appraisal satisfaction, Turnover intention, and Work engagement; Performance Appraisal Politics,

Intention to leave, Interpersonal justice; Feedback sign, Goal orientation, Leadership, well-being,

Relationship psychological capital; Charismatic Leadership, Feedback utility, Employee behavior,

Organizational citizenship behavior, and social exchange.
