Title: Systematics of the higher groups of parasitic Platyhelminthes: what’s new?

Summary: This paper presents a review of the literature containing new ideas in phylogeny and systematics of the higher groups of Platyhelminthes, including data from morphology, ultrastructure and molecular systematics. It does not aim to include any new interpretation or hypothesis. The points currently debated, and discused here, are: monophyly of the Platyhelminthes; the position of the Acoela; the problem of determination of the sister-group of the other Bilateria and of the parasitic Platyhelminthes; the phylogenetic relationships between the higher groups of parasitic Platyhelminthes (Monogenea, Digenea, Cestoda); and phylogeny within these groups.
