ESTRABÃO E ASPECTOS DA SUA “GEOGRAFIA”
This text aims to present Strabo and discuss his geographical studies, with a focus on the necessary fact that we must understand the genesis of Geography in order to better engage in this science in contemporary times. It results from studies on the author and his work, and the importance he holds for the development of historical geographic knowledge. We employed a historical methodology, using the historical and logical method, consisting of procedures and techniques used to reveal the facts of the past and construct the historiography of a determined period based on written sources. Geography, as knowledge essential to the development of humanity, has a long history. Over time, numerous thinkers have paid special attention to the study of the genesis of geographical knowledge, among them Strabo, a cultured Greek who was born in 63 BC in Amasya, in present-day Turkey. Strabo is essential due to the legacy left in his work "Geography." This is a compendium of the geographical heritage from his travels through the known world of his time, the oikoumene, in which he relates man to the environment. As a testament to a transforming era, of Roman hegemony conquering new territories, this geographer broadened geographical horizons and contributed to the development of what became defined as Geography.
