In 2005, the news of the existence of a “semi-speaking” of Chan. [qsi], a language that was considered “extinct” more than 150 years ago, transformed the sociolinguistic reality of the Litoral region in Argentina and Uruguay. This article aims to trace the identification of a person as a “last speaker”, to show how an entity called “Chan. language” has been shaped over time, and to present the emergence of a community that feel an emotional connection to this language.
