Structure of hair varies in mammals even differs in male and female of the same species. Hair can be examined under a light microscope and compared to reference samples. The physical appearance of the medulla has many variations; Moreover scale pattern, whether regular wave or irregular, scale margin are varied from animal to animal. Medulla is amorphous in Rattus rattus, Ovis aries and Canis lupus while lattice in Homo sapien and Bos taurus. Medullary index is highest in Bos taurus and lowest in Homo sapien.
