Antecedent/motivational factors for formalising hr practices among family-owned small accommodation businesses developing economies : towards a conceptual framework
This theoretical study examines the dominant antecedent
factors to the formalisation of HRM practices among family owned/managed SMMEs in developing African economies. The study argues that the formalisation of family owned SMMEs is a consequence of the intricate
intersection of a complex web of motivational factors spanning individual firm factors with the internal and external environment. To this effect, this paper
contributes to the literature on family owned/managed SMMEs by drawing on the Technology Acceptance Model to develop a conceptual framework on antecedents to formalisation of small, developing business which include
individual firm variables, internal and external environment variables. The paper recommends that future researchers take a microscopic approach to each of the
individual factors identified in the study with a view of casting more light on the effects of the factors in the formalisation of HRM practices in small family-owned
accommodation businesses.
