Only fixations starting after the onset of the array are used. At the start of the trial, there is a small, but significant difference between positive and negative cues. The first fixation following a negative cue is even guided toward irrelevant items. A positive cue guides participants towards relevant items immediately, but negative cues also provide correct guidance from the second fixation on.
