A total of 800 μM 6PG was incubated at 70°C in 50 mM phosphate solution pH 5 containing different molar ratios of cysteine and FeCl2 but at the same total concentration, 150 μM. (A) Detailed time courses in R5P formation are shown. Lines represent best hyperbolic fits. N = 3 per condition (see S1 Data). (B) Estimated initial rates (error bars: mean ± SD) are plotted as a function of the ratio between both additives (see S1 Data). The gray dashed line represents the null-model expectation of weighted additive contributions with no patent inter-species dynamic interaction. 6PG, 6-phosphogluconate; R5P, ribose-5-phosphate.
