This image shows a black line with a width of 500 micron wax-printed on a pieace of chromatographic paper (Whatman N. 1). The black wax can be seen in the midst of the tangle of mulitscale fibers and network of pores characteristic of paper. The longitudinal fractures observable at the wax surface are probably produced during the solidification of the melted wax skin deposited by the printer. The paper was printed with a Xerox ColorQube 8570 wax printer and the image of the printed surface was taken with an Olympus microscope.
