Duarte Miguel Prazeres

Duarte Miguel Prazeres was born in 1966 in Madeira, Portugal, and received his degree in Chemical Engineering from University of Coimbra, Portugal (1989). In 1993 he obtained a Ph. D. degree in Chemical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon, Portugal. He joined the faculty at IST in 1993 and has since been teaching in the Bioengineering and Chemical Engineering areas (Mass and Heat Transfer, Fluid Dynamics, Separation Processes, Downstream Processing, Biological Engineering Labs, Nucleic Acid Structure, Innovation in Bioengineering, Biomimicry, Bioethics). He is currently Full Professor and coordinator of the Master in Biological Engineering at IST and Senior Researcher at the Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences, both within the University of Lisbon. Since 1992, he published 180 peer-reviewed articles, 23 book chapters, 2 books an 1 US patent on such topics as biocatalysis, downstream processing, and nanobiotechnology.
