Scanning electron microscope image of wax-printed chromatographic paper Whatman N. 1. A relatively smooth surface layer of wax can be seen in the printed portion of the paper on the right. A non-printed portion of the paper is seen on the left side, with its chracteristic tangle of mulitscale fibers and network of pores. The paper was printed with a Xerox ColorQube 8570 wax printer. A sample was then covered with a conductive layer of gold-palladium particles and observed on a Hitachi S2400 SEM microscope in the low vacuum mode.Magnification: 100X.
