This ASACTER database was initiated under the “Exploring Pacific Sperm Whales π Project” by the Hualien Formosa Association and Hualien Turumoan Whale Watching. Its objective is to establish a publicly accessible acoustic signature database for researchers worldwide. Additionally, it aims to provide evidence of the presence of sperm whales and marine mammals in the eastern Pacific waters of Taiwan. The project involves deploying passive acoustic towed monitoring systems on the whale-watching vessel to collect data on the vocalizations and behaviors of various species. The entries in the database are categorized and named based on species and the date of species sightings. Each entry in the database includes effective sound files and spectrograms. The cumulative duration of effective sound files has exceeded 1000 seconds for over 5 different species. This project continues to accompany whale-watching expeditions, and both the number of database entries and effective sound files are continuously growing. Please refer to the Related Materials for more information.

Database entries naming rule: database name_species name_voyage date_serial number, eg. Acoustic Signature Database for Cetacean in Taiwan Eastern Maritime Waters (ASACTER) _ False Killer Whale (FKW)_20230219_01
