The effect of DOPAL injections into the substantia nigra on neurons in either the pars compacta (SNpc) or the pars reticularis (SNpr) are shown. Control animals were injected with buffered saline while experimental animals were injected with DOPAL (4 µg/800 nl). Unbiased stereology was used to assess the number of neurons (see Methods).
