Abstract:
Hybridized excitations that comprise of well-known and well-understood collective modes have received increasing interest as the possible origin of novel functionalities and unconventional materials properties.
Recently, TOF spectroscopy on CeCuAl3 has provided putative evidence for a so-called vibronic mode – a combined crystal field - phonon excitation. We have found such excitation in single crystalline samples of CeAuAl3 during a short test experiment on PANDA (despite recent TOF study on polycrystals claiming the opposite).
We propose to determine the details of that excitation as well as its temperature dependence down to 3 K.
