Toronto Rental Regime Dataset 1976-2006
These datasets underpin the analysis in the article by Greg Suttor, "Rental Regime Change and the Geography of Poverty in Toronto, 1971-2006":
International Journal of Housing Policy. https://doi.org/10.1080/19491247.2024.2417319.
The "Main datashare file 2024 Anon" provides census counts for households (occupied dwellings), disaggregated by tenure and structural type categories, plus RGI social housing units, for 45 districts of Greater Toronto, for the years 1971, 1981, 1991, 1996, and 2006, as well as net change for corresponding intervals.
The B2020 (.IVT) files are Statistics Canada custom census data used in the main file noted above, covering the census dates 1971, 1981, 1991, 1996, 2001 and 2006. The .IVT can be read with the 'Beyond 20/20' application downloadable at: https://www.statcan.gc.ca/en/public/beyond20-20
Other files provide supplementary relevant information: private rental and social housing production by subperiod; and a map of the districts of Greater Toronto that were used in the analysis.
