Technology and Innovations in COVID-19 Response: The Philippines from January to May 2020

This chapter aims to contribute empirical findings on COVID-related research literature by utilizing the experiences and providing an analysis on the COVID-19 response in the archipelagic country of the Philippines. Our principal research question is: How did the Philippines’ response to the COVID-19 outbreak develop from January to May 2020? In addition, what practices, technologies and innovations have helped in the detection, isolation, and medication of infected patients? In this chapter, we highlighted the practices implemented by communities, and the technologies developed by individuals as well as public and private organizations in the country’s fight with COVID-19. By putting forth the local innovations and practices in the Philippines, we aim to provide examples to other states on how to better respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.
