(A) The top line represents the prototypic arrangement of the HSV-1 genome, with the unique long (UL) and unique short (US) regions flanked by the terminal repeat (TR) and internal repeat (IR) regions. Shown below are the expanded genomic regions which encompass the open reading frames of UL20 and glycoprotein K. In black are the approximate deletions within their respective genes. (B) A graphical depiction of the gK UL20 complex interacting with gB. Areas between the black lines on the graphical depiction represent the aproximate location of the deletion in their respective genes.
