Resistance to Globodera pallida provided by transgenic expression of a behavioural disrupting peptide in potato.

Resistance is conferred by expression of the peptide under control of a root-tip specific promoter (MDK4–20) in trials in both a containment glasshouse (light shading) and the field (darker shading) relative to G. pallida eggs in soil after multiplication on untransformed cv Désirée. Values are means ± sem based on 2 replicate samples for each of ten pots per line in containment and pools of nine samples for each of 4 replicate plots per line in the field. The differences between transgenic lines and the corresponding wildtype control are shown (***, P<0.001; **, P<0.01; *, P<0.05; oneway ANOVA with a priori contrasts).
