Fixed Point Loci When the Activities are Proportional

<p>Geometrical loci of the averaged system's fixed points when the excitatory and inhibitory activity function are proportional to each other, as described in <a href="http://www.ploscompbiol.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pcbi.0040029#pcbi-0040029-e008" target="_blank">Equation 8</a>. The locus depends on the parameter ratio <i>ρ</i>. When <i>ρ</i> < 1 fixed points are located in the lower half of the plane ( ) and vice versa. We can infer from the assumptions in <a href="http://www.ploscompbiol.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pcbi.0040029#pcbi-0040029-e005" target="_blank">Equations 5</a> and <a href="http://www.ploscompbiol.org/article/info:doi/10.1371/journal.pcbi.0040029#pcbi-0040029-e006" target="_blank">6</a> that as fixed points approach the lower-right corner of the phase plane, activity increases. Thus, decreasing <i>ρ</i> changes the overall behavior from a depressing to a facilitating one. </p>
